TMF Health Quality Institute is hosting this collaborative discussion on effective care management for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Representatives from four areas – nephrology, primary care, pharmacy and cardiology – focus on the treatment of diabetes, hypertension and CKD through the use of ACE inhibitors and ARB agents.

Presenters:
  • Horacio E. Adrogue, MD – Medical Director, Methodist Transplant Network and Pancreas Transplant Program; Chair of the Professional Education Sub-Committee for the Governor’s Task Force on Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Chester Fox, MD, FAAFP – Professor of Family Medicine, University at Buffalo; New York State Dept. of Health Task Force on Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Jacqueline Nolen, PharmD – Assistant Professor, Feik School of Pharmacy
  • James Atkins, MD – Professor of Internal Medicine, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School; Cardiologist, Parkland Health and Hospital System

Objectives:

  • Discuss the key points in the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Explain the evidence-based treatment for blood pressure control and reduction of proteinuria among patients with CKD through use of ACE/ARBs
  • Interpret therapy and titration guidelines for angiotensin converting enzxyme (ACE) inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocking (ARB) agents
  • Considerations in use of ACE/ARBs in special populations, such as, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and coronary artery disease
  • Acknowledge potential side-effects and impacts on lab values for patients with diabetes, hypertension, and/or kidney disease

Who Should Attend:  Primary care physicians, nephrologists, cardiologists, pharmacists, dietitians, diabetes educators, nephrology nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
